NBE: November

Hey gang:

We are voting on the Next Big Event! This is going to be build-your-own Type 2, which means the following:

Pick two blocks between Lorwyn and the Rath Cycle, including also Ice Age (Ice Age, Alliances, Coldsnap) and one Core Set (from Revised to Tenth). Your deck will be built from these sets, adhering to any bannings in that block or during standard while that block was legal. (No raffinity, etc). Then, we'll play one of the following Tournaments:

A) Peasant

B) Pauper

C) Tag Team Peasant(as we tried before; each player gets to use only one of the two blocks to build their decks. However, both may pull cards from the same core set. Also... it's Peasant.)

D) 2HG (with randomized teams each round)

As usual, we'll be using approval voting! :-P Go ahead and vote:-P

When are we actually playing? Please suggest a Sunday in November. The Sundays before and after Thanksgiving are out, sorry.

When is voting closed? I dunno; I'll announce soon.

NBE: October 2007

Hey gang,

Our next big event will likely be held on October 14th or October 21st. Also, it will be one of the following three formats: (yes, I added one!)

A) 2HG draft

B) Backdraft

C) Progressive Garth draft

The final option likely requires some explanation (I don't think the "progressive" part is explained online). Essentially, players start with one pack, then draft it against one person and play a game. The players then keep the 15 cards they drafted, and use that as their pack against the next opponent.

Players would play 5 games, anyone winning 4 of those games would get a free pack; anyone winning all 5 would claim a free draft set :-)

There's been some clamoring for Garthing, so I thought I would add this last option! :-)

As usual, we're using approval voting, so feel free to vote for as many different options as you'd like here. Please post your votes as comments to this post. If you don't specify who you are, I may not count your vote. If you already voted by emailing me, please post here also. Additionally, you may change your vote at any time.

(Feel free to voice preference for your favorite of the two date options also.)

Voting will close October 6th.

Reject Rare Draft: which cards are rare?

We are voting on the following two issues: (straight from the email)

1) Do we allow rares printed before Exodus (meaning, rares without the
gold-colored expansion symbol)? If we do, then suddenly we have the
problem of determining whether some submitted cards are actually rare. If
not, then we exclude some (cool and horrible) rares from being in our
draft.

2) Do we allow Timeshifted (Purple) cards that were rare when originally
printed? Pro: These cards were once rare. Con: Purple cards just aren't
rare.

Vote away!

NBE: April 2007

Our Next Big Event will be on April 29th, at noon. We still need to decide what the format will be for the event. The options are as follows:

1) Reject Rare Draft (Follow the link to see a description.)

2) Peasant Highlander (Description on the website.)

3) Wacky Backdraft (There should be a description on the website... if not, I'll add one!)

Please vote for the format(s) you'd most like to see. Either vote for one or two of these things and feel free to comment on the different formats. If you post anonymously, please tell me who you are so I make sure you don't vote more than once.

Voting will close on April 8th. You can change your vote up until then and everything.

Go ahead and vote!

Grand Prix Teams and Rides

Hey gang,

Magic's Grand Prix: Boston is coming up very soon! More info can be found here:

http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=mtgcom/grandprix/massachusetts07

Please use this thread to look for/offer rides and look for teammates. The format for the Grand Prix is 2-headed giant, so finding teams ahead of time will be very helpful!

Cooligan,
